ANDERSON — The Anderson City Council approved several requests for the expansion of three local businesses.

The council Thursday passed through two of three required readings an ordinance for the voluntary annexation of five acres at the request of Unified Group Services.

The company is currently located within the city limits in the 3100 block of East 67th Street and is requesting the annexation to expand parking for the business.

Attorney Mike Austin said the annexation would not cost the city any additional money because the business is already located in Anderson.

He said the company was recognized by the Indiana Business Journal as the best in the state in managing employee health insurance benefits.

Austin said the company currently has 185 employees and is looking to add another 100 employees

in the future.

The council passed through three readings an ordinance to vacate Leroy Boulevard and Everett streets located off of 53rd Street to the east of Ridge Road.

The request for the vacating of the two streets was made by RPM Transmission, which owns all the surrounding property.

Austin said RPM Transmission is planning to construct a third building on the property.

The council suspended the rules to allow final passage when Austin said a contractor is ready to begin work.

The council set a hearing for May 8 for a requested threeyear tax abatement for the expansion of LGT Irrigation.

Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said the company recently purchased property at 5730 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Winkler said the existing building was demolished and LGT plans to build a new warehouse on the site.

The company has been in business for 10 years and currently has 25 employees.

The company is investing $300,000 in the project and plans to create another 20 to 25 jobs with an hourly wage of $22.50.
